A Which? report this week revealed that an incredible 1 in 4 Britons are now growing their own fruit and vegetables. Although a number of people indicated this was in order ‘to eat more healthily’ , the overriding reason was that as food, fuel and energy prices continue to rise, many are looking for new ways of saving.

BBQ season arrived this month with the team at Thales optronics in Glasgow taking pride of place with a massive 750 guest meat extravaganza, then it was the turn of WL Gore in Livingston with a further 250 guests all queuing for a freshly made beef burger or tikka marinated river cobbler, not to mention the piri piri marinated prawns, Thai chicken, hot Smokey chicken thighs and 5 fresh summer salads!

Sodexo have been firm advocates of locally sourced produce for a long time. As nationwide contract caterers, we cover events and venues across the country and constantly strive to support the local economies of the respective sites. This may be through training initiatives, local staffing or raising the profile of the area through PR and marketing. However, perhaps of most importance to us are local farmers and producers who play such a fundamental role in our business and help us cut down on our food miles.
